BIOGRAPHY

After training in visual arts and a career as a performer in several dance companies, Mickaël Phelippeau followed the ex.e.r.ce training at the National Choreographic Center of Montpellier. He has worked with numerous choreographers including Mathilde Monnier, Alain Buffard, and Daniel Larrieu. From 2001 to 2008, he worked with four other artists within Clubdes5, a collective of dancer-performers. Mickaël Phelippeau has been developing his choreographic projects since 1999. At the same time, he pursues a flexible approach, involving different fields and media, and operating in various contexts.

Since 2003, he has mainly focused his research around the bi-portrait approach, which serves as a pretext for encounters. In 2008, he created the choreographic pieces *bi-portrait Jean-Yves* and *bi-portrait Yves C.*, which provide an opportunity to explore the concept of otherness through intersecting portraits: the first with Jean-Yves Robert, a priest from Bègles, and the second with Yves Calvez, a choreographer of a traditional Breton dance group. In 2010, he created *Round Round Round* (a film featuring a village festival without the festival or the village); in 2011 *Numéro d’objet* (a quartet of female performers from the 1980s addressing issues of career and generation) and *The Yellow Project*; in 2012 *Sueños* (a duo with singer Elli Medeiros) and *Chorus* (a piece for 24 choristers); in 2013 *enjoy the silence* (a duo with author Célia Houdart); in 2014 *Pour Ethan* (a solo for teenager Ethan Cabon) and *Set-Up* (a piece for 4 dancers, 4 musicians, and 1 lighting technician); in 2015 *Llámame Lola* (a solo for choreographic artist Lola Rubio) and *Avec Anastasia* (a solo for teenager Anastasia Moussier); in 2016 *Membre fantôme* with bagpiper Erwan Keravec as part of the Festival d’Avignon’s Sujets à Vif series; in 2017 *Footballeuses* (with ten female football players), *Mit Daudi* (with Daudi Simba, commissioned by Theater Freiburg) and *Soli* (with tenor Renaud Mascret); in 2018 *Ben & Luc* (a duo for two Burkinabe dancers) and *Lou* (a solo for dancer Lou Cantor); in 2019 *Juste Heddy* (a solo for a young man who grew up in the northern districts of Marseille). His latest piece, *De Françoise à Alice*, was created behind closed doors at Les Quinconces and L’Espal, Scène nationale du Mans, in November 2020.

He also undertakes parallel projects such as exhibitions or the *Portraits Fantômes*, which involve inhabiting three homes in the absence of their residents.

From 2010 to 2023, Mickaël Phelippeau was the artistic director of the À DOMICILE event in Guissény, Brittany (taking over from choreographer Alain Michard), where he invited choreographers in residence to work with the village residents.

He was an associate artist at Quartz – Scène nationale de Brest (2011 – 2014) and at the Théâtre de Brétigny – Scène conventionnée (2012 – 2016), at L’Échangeur – CDCN Hauts-de-France (2016 – 2018); in residence at the Théâtre Louis Aragon, Scène conventionnée danse de Tremblay-en-France as part of “Territoire(s) de la danse” (2016); an artist partner at Zef – Scène nationale de Marseille (2016 – 2019); an artist companion at CCN of Caen in Normandy (2016 – 2019), in residence at Espace 1789, Scène conventionnée danse de Saint-Ouen, with the support of the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis (2019 – 2020).

Mickaël Phelippeau is a member of the Grand Ensemble of Scène nationale du Mans, Les Quinconces and L’Espal, one of the partner artists of La Filature – Scène nationale de Mulhouse, and an associate artist at the Halle aux Grains, Scène nationale de Blois.

bi-p is supported by the DRAC Centre-Val de Loire Ministry of Culture under the agreement, by the Centre-Val de Loire Region under the agreement, and by the Institut français for its projects abroad.
